What is Autolog?
Autolog is a suite of connected features that allows you to connect, compare and compete with your friends playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. Autolog tracks everything that you do, automatically compares it with your friends and broadcasts the results of these comparisons directly into your game. For each event you will see a SpeedWall, this is essentially a leaderboard for that event showing you how you are doing against your friends. Autolog will track and display your times, the car you used, and the number of attempts that you've made on each event. Autolog will also deliver the latest news to you based on what your friends have been playing. Pressing R1 or RB on an event will cycle the information so that you can get to what you want to see.
What is the Wall?
The Wall is a messaging centre for you to share your thoughts, photos and gameplay highlights with your friends. It works on a shared wall concept so when you post something to the Wall, all of your friends will see it. Sometimes in the game you will get the opportunity to share a gameplay result with your friends. When this happens, Autolog creates an automatic message for you. You can then add your own comment to this message and send it to the Wall. What's cool about this is that your friends get to see what you've been doing and they can then get involved in the competition by simply pressing R2 or RT on that Wall message to immediately play that event if they have it unlocked.
What is Autolog Recommends?
Autolog recommends events to play based on what your friends have been playing. In simple terms, if a friend beats you on an event, Autolog will generate a recommendation for you. We think that social competition is incredibly powerful and so we've built it through the heart of the game. Autolog automatically tracks your performances in the game and is constantly comparing your play against your friends. When high prioirty comparisons are made, they are then broadcast into your game, giving you a nudge to compete. You can see recommendations in-game on the top level of Autolog, on the Seacrest County map, and on the Autolog Recommends page of the Hot Pursuit website. Breaking News and Autolog Alerts will help keep you informed. If you have a short amount of time to play, you can simply head to Autolog Recommends to play against your friends even when they are not online.
How often does Autolog update?
This is dependent on network conditions between your game and Autolog as well as the demand being placed on Autolog from other gamers. In fair conditions, we expect it to update inside 30 seconds, however, in some instances, you may have to be patient and wait a few minutes for Autolog to update with the latest data.
How do I add a profile picture?
There are two ways in which you can assign a profile picture to your Autolog account. From within the game, you can access SETTINGS - PROFILE PICTURE and use your USB camera to take a photo. This is then saved on your console and uploaded to Autolog for your friends to see. Alternatively, you can upload a photo through Autolog on the web. Go to hotpursuit.needforspeed.com, click on Autolog, sign in with your EA Account credentials, and head over to the CAREER page.
What happens to my times if I lose connection to Autolog?
If for any reason you lose connection to Autolog, your game performances are still recorded on your console / PC. When you then reconnect to Autolog, the system will collect updated times and stats to make sure that you haven't lost anything.
What do I do if I see inappropriate content in my game?
You can report any comment, player profile picture, Snapshot or Dreamshot that you consider inappropriate by pressing L1 (PS3) / LB (Xbox 360) or Left Shift (PC). Simply follow the instructions on screen and our Customer Support team will review your report and take the appropriate action if necessary.
It says my EA Account details are incorrect.
If you need to set up a new account or are having difficulties remembering your details, head over to http://profile.ea.com.
How do I take Photos?
There are two different types of Photos in Hot Pursuit -- Snapshots and Dreamshots. Snapshots are taken at any point in the game by pressing R3 (PS3) or by pressing the Right stick down (360). Snapshots are SD resolution so that you can take them whenever you want to. Dreamshots are taken by pressing START to pause the game and then selecting the Photo Mode option. Here, you can change the camera angle, play with some effects and then, once you're happy, press the X or A button to take a full HD resolution photo. All photos are automatically uploaded to your Autolog storage.
How do I share a Photo?
All photos that you take in the game are stored on the Autolog server in your own private storage. To share a photo with your friends, simply add a comment to a Photo. Autolog will then take this photo and your comment and post it to the Wall.
How many Photos can I save?
If you have redeemed your Online Pass, then you can store a maximum of 50 photos on your Autolog account. If you haven't redeemed your Online Pass, then you are limited to just 5 shots.
Where are Photos saved?
On the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Hot Pursuit, Photos are automatically uploaded and stored in Autolog's cloud storage. On PC, the same is the case but we also write an uncompressed image saved to your Windows Pictures directory under "Criterion Games\Need For Speed(TM) Hot Pursuit".
Can I export my Photos?
Logging in to your Autolog account on the web will enable you to save your Photos to your local machine and then share them as you see fit. On the PC, you can also browse to the MY PHOTOS folder in Windows and get access to the uncompressed Photos that the game also exports.
What if I don't want to be suggested as a Friend to my Friends of Friends?
Autolog generates Friends suggestions for a network of players based on mutual Friends of Friends. If you don't want Autolog to utilise your network to generate these suggestions you can turn the feature off. To do so, go to SETTINGS - ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT - PRIVACY and uncheck the option.
Can I access Autolog when on the move?
Yes you can! Visit needforspeed.com for more information on getting access to Autolog on the web and on your phone.
How can I find new Friends to compare against?
We think that mutual friends are more important than strangers so Autolog will suggest Friends of Friends to you. To see these friend suggestions, head to Hot Pursuit Online and select the Friend Recommendations button. Here you can "Tell Friends" that you are playing the game and they should too, you can "Make Friends" by getting in to online games or you can send Friend Requests to players that Autolog is suggesting you. Three simple ways for you to extend your friends network.
What's the difference between a Private Match, Invite Only, and Public game?
Private games are for Friends only and have a greater amount of player control than Public game. The main difference is that there is a host who can change game mode and tier between rounds, pick the specific route to be played next, and choose when to launch the next round. In addition, all players can choose what side they're on. Public games do not have a host, so the lobby cycles automatically through different routes on a playlist. Players do not change sides in Public games - the teams are autobalanced at the start of each round - and each round starts automatically. Additionally the mode cannot be changed - if you want to play a different mode in a Public game then you will have to join another lobby.
I'm in an Invite Only or Private Lobby but I can't start the game. Why does it say "Waiting For Players"?
The player progression in Hot Pursuit is the same whether you are online of playing solo. When you finish an event, your Bounty is tallied up and you may receive rewards. We hold players in the Lobby until all players have finished collecting their rewards and are ready to play again.
What's the best way to earn Bounty?
Everything that you do in the game earns you Bounty, which fills your bar, earning you new cars, equipment upgrades, and new ranks. Racers earn Bounty through their finish positions, finding new shortcuts, setting new Personal Best times, and wrecking Cops. Cops earn Bounty through their Pursuit performances such as their finish times, busting racers, and effective use of support.
Got any tips to make my Spike Strips more effective?
Spike Strips can slide quite a long way, so use them carefully! If you use them on a bend they are likely to slide to the outside, so often it is better to use them on a straight just after a bend. Just don't brake too hard - or use the handbrake - immediately after dropping spikes, as they may slide into you! As an advanced tactic, dropping spikes as you approach an exit to a shortcut can cause them to slide into the road - a sneaky way to catch someone unawares! Another good tactic is to drop them just before you go through a gap in a roadblock, booby-trapping it for anyone behind you. Finally, try to swing the back of your car round a bit when using a Spike Strip. This will cause them to fan out, making for a much harder obstacle to avoid, and allowing you to spike two opponents at once. Another good tactic is to use Spike Strips off-road - the dust your car kicks up makes it really hard for your pursuer to see them.
When is the best time to use Roadblocks?
Roadblocks are most effective early in Hot Pursuits as more racers will hit them and get damaged.
I've noticed that Nitrous works differently for a Cop and a Racer. What gives?
Cop Nitrous is a lot like Turbo for Racers - it results in a powerful burst of acceleration, although its duration is nowhere near that of Turbo. Cop Nitrous has two main uses: getting back up to speed after a corner, U-turn, or crash, and as a way to hit Racers harder. Cops earn Nitrous for driving fast, drifting, and for avoiding same-way traffic, but driving too dangerously - particularly driving in oncoming - is not rewarded. Also note that Cops gain no top speed advantage from using Nitrous, so don't waste it on the straights. Racer nitrous, while less powerful than the Cop version, lasts considerably longer. This allows Racers to exceed their normal top speed and gives them an advantage over the Cops, allowing them to run away on the longer stretches of road. Racers, with their total disregard for the law, have more ways to earn Nitrous than cops: driving in oncoming and narrowly missing oncoming traffic are the fastest ways to earn Nitrous for the Racer.
I've unlocked a new car but when I go to the next event I can't see it. Why is that?
Cars are organised by their capabilities. For a Racer this is described as the Series, for Cops it's the Unit their associated with. Similarly, events have Series or Unit restrictions on them. You may well have unlocked a car that is ineligible for the event that you are trying to play.
What's the differences between the Spike Strip I and III?
Cops: Lv1 is a medium-sized strip, Lv2 is a large strip, Lv3 is two large strips.
Racers: Lv1 is a small-sized strip, Lv2 is a medium strip, Lv3 is two medium strips.
All spike strips do the same amount of damage - a lot!
What does Turbo do?
The Turbo is basically a rocket! It provides a huge, prolonged burst of acceleration. While it won't make your car exceed its top Nitrous speed, it can keep it there for a long time. If you're feeling brave - and have enough road - use up a full tank of Nitrous and then immediately use a Turbo for the ultimate top speed escape tactic. If you drop a Spike Strip before doing this then you're bound to put some distance between you and the Cops!
What's the differences between the Racer Turbo I and III?
The Turbo's duration increases as it upgrades: a Lv1 Turbo lasts for a maximum of 10s, whereas a Lv3 Turbo can last up to 15s.
Why does Turbo sometimes disengage?
Turbo disengages when either it runs out or you hit an obstacle too hard.
What does the EMP do?
A successful EMP results in a big kick to the opponent's car - this causes large amounts of damage and knocks them sideways. Used judiciously it can be used to make your opponent crash into traffic, a wall, or even a roadblock. EMPs can also target helicopters, its difficult to do, but if done successfully it makes the helicopter disengage from the chase.
What's the difference between the EMP I and III?
As the EMP upgrades it, increases in power and range, and recharges more quickly.
What's the difference between the Cop Roadblock I and III?
Road Blocks use bigger and heavier cars as they upgrade - it is much harder for a Racer to barge through a Lv1 Roadblock than a Lv3 one.
What does the Jammer do?
The Jammer increases in duration as it is upgraded, from 7s for a Lv1 Jammer to 12s for a Lv3. All levels of Jammer cause spike strips to close, break any EMP lock-ons, and jam Cop weapons and radar for their duration.
What does the Helicopter do?
The helicopter flies ahead of the pursuit and drops a spike strip on the road to damage and slow down the racers. In Interceptor, it also prevents the suspect from going into cooldown.
What's the difference between the Helicopter I and III?
As the helicopter upgrades, its payload of Spike Strips increases: a Lv1 Helicopter has one Spike Strip, a Lv2 has two, and a Lv3 has three.
Sometimes I don't get the option to retry an event. Why is that?
If you have unlocked a reward by completing an event, then you are not able to retry immediately - we wouldn't want you to miss out on your prize now would we?
Is there any way to turn off my Cop siren?
Yes, hold down the Y button on Xbox or triangle on PS3 to turn it off. You can also tap it to change the type of siren and to blip it.
How do I break a Racer out of Cooldown?
Catch back up with them so that they are inside your "pursuit radius" which is shown as a red and blue circle around your car on the minimap.
I'm being locked on with an EMP and don't have any Jammers available, what can I do?
The EMP only fires forwards, so you just need to ensure that your opponent is not facing towards you when it fires. Getting round a bend or onto a shortcut may do the trick, and you can also get out of range if you're fast enough (Turbo is very useful here). Spike strips are an excellent way to spin your opponent out or at least make them point somewhere else, but if all else fails then use the handbrake; hopefully they won't see it coming and will overshoot.
The Racer is using a Jammer, what can I do?
The best you can do is to try to keep them in your sights: when a Jammer is active then you really have to rely on driving skill and brute force to take the Racer down. If the suspect is out of sight, look for tire marks or objects that have been knocked over to see when they have taken a short cut. Also, try to anticipate what they are going to do like are they in a shortcut with good opportunities for changing direction. If you've lost sight of them, try to leave it to the last minute before committing yourself to a direction.
My friend is faster than me. Are there any tips for getting more from my cars?
Yes! There are five key ways to improve your times:
My friend is faster than me. Are there any tips for getting more from my cars?
Pick your car wisely! Some cars are more suited to certain roads than other: use a nimble car on winding roads, but a car with a higher top speed may get better times on roads with long straights.
2. Know your route! Not all alternate routes are shortcuts - sometimes it's faster to stay on the road. Some shortcuts are obviously beneficial, but others are more ambiguous: experiment to find the best route along each road.
3. Precision pays! Driving smoothly and accurately conserves speed, particularly on shortcuts where the driving line is much faster than the rough stuff on either side (follow the tire tracks for the optimal route). You also don't want to hit anything: it seems obvious, but even little scrapes against walls can scrub off precious speed. The key to the best time is keeping your speed as high as possible at all times: the more often the speedo is in the red/blue the better!
4. Nitrous! Earn it as fast as you can, but make sure you use it carefully: use it to maintain your top speed up hills, regain speed after bends and shortcuts, and to hit top speed on the straights, but don't waste it - why use it to eke out another mph or two on a straight when you could use it to race up the hill after the next bend?
5. Drift! Drifting is a real art-form when done correctly. It is usually faster to drift around a corner than to brake and hold the line, so use this to your advantage; you also earn a lot of nitrous for drifting, so it's doubly useful. You'll be surprised at just how shallow you can drift... in some cars; all cars have different drift characteristics, so experiment to find the one that's right for the road and right for you.
What's the best way to use Nitrous?
Nitrous for Cops and Racers increases in power the longer you use it - using it in small bursts is NOT the way to use nitrous as it will just waste it. It's better to conserve it until you've got at least half a tank (preferably more) and use it all in one go.
I'm losing lots of speed when I'm drifting, what can I do? & Do I have to tap the brake to start a drift?
If you find yourself losing too much speed in drifts then you may be drifting erratically: a smooth, controlled drift is much faster than one with lots of steering adjustments. You also want to hit the apex of the corner whilst drifting, as you will exit at a much greater speed than if you drift wide. You may also be losing speed on entering drift - you don't actually have to brake to start drifting, just releasing the gas and immediately getting back on it also works, particularly useful for long shallow drifts.
Why can't I play online if I am under 13 years old?
Electronic Arts has a policy of restricting access to online play to under 13s. This decision is based on a myriad of business and regulatory considerations. Parents and guardians are not prohibited from allowing their kids to use the parent or guardian's own account for online game play under their supervision. However, do keep in mind that any violation of EA Terms & Conditions by anyone using your account may cause an irreversible revocation of the account. Parents or guardians have a responsibility to educate kids regarding online safety and may find resources such as Web Wise Kids (http://www.webwisekids.org) and Wired Safety (http://www.wiredsafety.org) helpful.
Other online players can't join my game no matter what I do.
The best thing to do for flawless online connections, not just with NFS Hot Pursuit, but for all online games is to ensure that you have a modern, up to date router. You should ensure that uPNP is enabled on the device. On the PS3 you can go to your internet settings and run a connection test which will test your NAT type. Ideally you are looking for 2 or below with uPnP available.
On X360 you should see the NAT type as "Open". Microsoft has a page for helping with NAT issues here: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/kb.aspx?id=979000&lcid=1033
If you are still having issues then you can try putting your PS3/X360 into "DMZ" mode on your home network. The router manufacturer's instructions should be consulted on how to achieve this.
Finally a list X360 compatible routers can be found here: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/xboxlive/getconnected/CompatibleNetworkEquipment/CompatibleNetworkingEquipment.aspx
Ensuring that your router is flashed to the latest firmware, as provided by the router manufacturer, can also help.
Can I play multiplayer on LAN?
There are no plans to support LAN play.
Server Not Available / I keep getting kicked offline.
Make sure that you have enabled all the ports listed in the manual (TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, 13212, 45022, 43554, 42120-42130, 13200-13230, UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, 1000, 3659, 6000). It is also worth turning off any other devices you may have connected to your router when playing the game online. If you've done this then you will need to contact your ISP for further assistance.
See also the answer above "Online players can't join my game no matter what I do"
Do I need to create a new account to play NFS Hot Pursuit PC online?
To play NFS Hot Pursuit PC online you need an EA Account with an associated EA ID.If you have an EA Account and you know your EA ID you can enter this on the initial login screen along with your password and so you don't need to try creating a new account.
If you don't know the EA ID associated with the account you can find out by visiting http://support.ea.com On that page select 'My Account' and enter your e-mail address and password if prompted. Once logged in select 'My Account' again. Your EA ID will be listed on your 'EA Account Manager' page.
If you have an EA Account but don't have an EA ID associated with it (for example you created the account by playing the console version of NFS Hot Pursuit) then you can add an EA ID to that account by going through the 'Create Account' flow and specifying the e-mail address and password for your EA Account. Be sure to enter the correct information in the other fields as your account will be updated with that information.
If you don't have an EA Account then you will need to create a new one. The account you created can then be used in lots of other EA games as well as on http://www.EA.com and http://eastore.ea.com
I bought one of your PDLC packs but it doesn't appear in my game on PlayStation 3.
This is likely to be down to the region of your game being different to the region of the PlayStation Store that you purchased the content in. For example, If you have a PAL (European) version of Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, you will need to purchase our additional content from a European PlayStation Store. Similarly if you have a North American version, you will need to have bought the additional content from the North American store, using a US PSN ID. If you find that you've purchased the content in error, please contact Sony through www.playstation.com.
The best way to check is by looking on your packaging :
• BLES or NPEB your game's from Europe
• BLUS or NPUB, your game's from North America
• BLAS or NPHB it's from Asia and
• BLJM and NPJB is from Japan
Please note that for any issues regarding the PlayStation Store and purchases made via the store, you must contact Sony direct. We unfortunately cannot help you with this.
I haven't got the PlayStation Store in my country, how do I get your amazing new content?
Check with Sony to find out when the store is coming to your territory, go to www.playstation.com
I don't have a credit card, how do I buy stuff in the Store?
You can get pre-paid cards for consoles from many retailers. Alternatively, you can get credit cards that you can pre-load. Please use a search engine of your choice to find out more information.
Lost Save Games
We often get asked whether we can recreate save games. Unfortunately this isn't possible. This is for two reasons:
1. The information we have on our online servers is only a small fraction of that saved in your save game
2. Save game profiles are encrypted and locked to your PSN ID or gamertag
We recommend buying a couple of cheap USB sticks or X360 memory cards and at the end of every play session copy the save across. Next session, back up to the other stick or card. That way even if your save game is destroyed or you lose one of the cards, you've always got a previous version to go back to.
My Wife/Girlfriend/Brother/Sister/Husband/Boyfriend wants own progress on PS3?
You'll need to create a new user on your PlayStation 3 to do this.Once you've signed in as a new user, boot the game and it will start again. Alternatively you can backup your save game to a USB device, delete the one on your system and start again.
Can we get a replay and replay editor?
We have no plans to add this feature.
Steering Wheel Support
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit officially supports the following steering wheels:
PS3
Generally all steering wheels based on the PS3 controller will function in NFS Hot Pursuit. Also note that all Logitech “Driving Force” wheels (Driving Force Pro, Driving Force EX, Driving Force GT), plus the top-end G25 and G27 wheels are supported
Xbox 360
We officially support the Microsoft wheel but any Xbox 360 wheel will most likely work fine.
PC
For PC we support all X input or Direct X compatible controllers, in other words, they’ll all work and will need to be configured in the game.
Wii
For Wii we support the Mario Kart wheel and compatible.
My PC game doesn't work - I'm using a PlayStation Eye camera and CL Eye
We've seen a problem with users with the CL Eye driver and NFS Hot Pursuit where the game will not start. At this time, the PlayStation Eye cameras are not supported by the game on PC. You will need to remove driver to get the game running again.
Does the game support 3D display output?
No. At this time, the game does not support 3D-display output on Playstation 3 and Windows.
I have a quad core / six core CPU and the game is crashing, what gives?
We've seen reports from players with problems with the game running on certain types of quad-core and six-core CPU's. We're investigating the issue at the moment and will detail out the findings and any potential solutions once we are able to accurately reproduce and diagnose the problems. Please be patient.
**Update: This has been fixed but if you are still experiencing any issues, you can report them via http://bugzilla.criteriongames.com/pc
The game is crashing when using the SMOOTHVISION HD feature on my ATI / AMD graphics card.
On systems with ATI/AMD Radeon graphics cards and the Catalyst Control Center application installed, if you have un-ticked the “Use application settings” box in the “SMOOTHVISION HD: Anti-aliasing” option, then the game may crash, most commonly when an event is selected from the map screen (when the car select screen should be displayed). Switching the “Use application settings” box back on for that option should stop the problem. We are investigating this further and try to find a solution that will not require you to change control center settings to play the game.
You can report any other issues you are experiencing via http://bugzilla.criteriongames.com/pc
What updates are included in the latest PC patch?
The following issues have been fixed in version 1.0.2.0:
- Flickering graphics after Alt-Tabbing out of the game and back.
- Controller configurations sometimes failing to save correctly.
- Steering response dead-zone when playing with steering wheel controllers.
- Player car engine audio volume too low.
- Some issues with CPU performance.
- Rare crash issue when entering the Career map screen.
The patch also contains 3 Free Cars!
- The Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible, the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition.
Note: After installing this patch you will only be able to play online against players who have also installed it. You will, however, continue to get Autolog updates from all other players regardless of which version they are using.
If you are not automatically prompted to download the latest patch when you run the game, it can also be downloaded from http://www.needforspeed.com/downloads
